Indian highway speed: 100 km/h to mph
100 km/h × 0.621371 = 62.14 mph. This helps when comparing Indian highway limits with US or UK driving discussions.
Convert between km/h, mph, m/s, ft/s, knots and Mach number. Useful for cars (km/h ↔ mph), running (m/s ↔ km/h), aviation (knots), and physics homework. The conversion is exact - no API call, no rounding shortcut.

Speed conversion is useful across driving, running, cycling, aviation, shipping, physics and weather. India uses kilometres per hour for road signs and vehicle speedometers, while the US and UK often use miles per hour. Physics classes use metres per second. Aviation and marine navigation use knots. Supersonic aircraft and missiles use Mach number. A traveller renting a car abroad, a runner following an international training plan, a student solving kinematics questions, and a weather enthusiast reading cyclone wind speeds all need quick and accurate speed conversion.
This converter uses metre per second as the SI base and converts every supported unit through that base. The exact relationships come from fixed length and time definitions: 1 km/h = 1000/3600 m/s, 1 mph = 1609.344/3600 m/s, and 1 knot = 1852/3600 m/s. Mach number is the only approximate unit because the speed of sound changes with temperature, altitude and air composition. The calculator uses the common reference value 340.29 m/s at sea level, 15°C, dry air.
Pick the source unit (e.g. km/h).
Enter the speed.
Pick the target unit (e.g. mph).
Read the result instantly.
Use swap to reverse the direction (e.g. mph → km/h).
Common driving and running speeds are in the conversions table below.
Every speed unit has a fixed factor to the SI base - meter per second. We multiply your value by the source unit's factor (giving m/s), then divide by the target unit's factor. The factors come from exact length and time definitions: 1 mile = 1,609.344 m, 1 nautical mile = 1,852 m, 1 hour = 3,600 s. Mach is the only approximate unit - the speed of sound depends on temperature; we use 340.29 m/s (sea level, 15 °C, dry air).
result = value × (fromUnit.toMps / toUnit.toMps)
The universal speed formula is distance divided by time. Unit conversion follows the same logic: convert the distance unit to metres and the time unit to seconds. For km/h to m/s, multiply by 1000 and divide by 3600, so 1 km/h = 0.277777... m/s. For m/s to km/h, multiply by 3.6. This is the most important school and physics shortcut.
Miles per hour uses the exact mile length: 1 mile = 1609.344 metres. Therefore 1 mph = 0.44704 m/s and 1 km/h = 0.621371 mph. Knots use nautical miles per hour: 1 knot = 1.852 km/h exactly. Cyclone and aviation reports often use knots because navigation historically follows nautical miles.
Mach number is speed relative to local speed of sound. Mach 1 at sea level and 15°C is about 1225 km/h, but at cruising altitude the speed of sound is lower due to colder air. This converter uses a standard reference value, which is fine for comparison but not for precise aerospace calculations where temperature and altitude matter.
100 km/h × 0.621371 = 62.14 mph. This helps when comparing Indian highway limits with US or UK driving discussions.
20 × 3.6 = 72 km/h. This conversion is used constantly in Class 9-12 kinematics and JEE/NEET physics problems.
65 knots × 1.852 = 120.38 km/h. IMD cyclone discussions may use km/h, while marine and aviation contexts often use knots.
Divide by 1.609344. 60 km/h ÷ 1.609344 ≈ 37.28 mph. Or multiply by 0.621371. Common reference: 100 km/h ≈ 62.14 mph.
Multiply by 1.609344. 60 mph × 1.609344 ≈ 96.56 km/h. Common reference: highway 70 mph ≈ 112.65 km/h.
A knot is one nautical mile per hour, exactly 1.852 km/h or 0.5144 m/s. It's the standard speed unit for ships, aircraft, and meteorology (cyclone wind speeds).
Mach 1 is the speed of sound. At sea level in dry air at 15 °C it's roughly 340.29 m/s ≈ 1,225 km/h ≈ 761 mph. It varies with altitude and temperature - at 35,000 ft (cruising altitude), Mach 1 is closer to 295 m/s.
Easy jog: ~2.8 m/s ≈ 10 km/h ≈ 6 min/km pace. Marathon world-record pace: ~5.7 m/s ≈ 20.5 km/h ≈ 2:55 min/km. Sprint (Usain Bolt 100 m): ~10.4 m/s ≈ 37.6 km/h.
Because the SI base unit of length is the meter and of time is the second. Using the base units for both keeps physics formulas (F=ma, KE = ½mv²) consistent without conversion factors.
Conversion math is exact for unit families that share a base - every length unit can be expressed in metres, every weight in kilograms, every temperature in kelvin. The only real decisions are precision (how many decimals to display) and rounding (banker's rounding vs round-half-up). This converter exposes both. For currencies and crypto we pull live rates because they change every minute; for everything else the math works offline.
Indian land units (gaj, ground, bigha, acre, hectare) are wired into the area converter alongside global ones - useful for property listings and government records. The MB-to-GB converter handles the decimal-vs-binary distinction (1 GB = 1,000 MB in storage marketing, but operating systems display 1 GiB = 1,024 MiB) so you stop wondering why your '2 TB drive' shows up as 1.81 TB in Windows.
