Day counter is the go-to tool for date-based questions: 'How many days until my wedding?', 'How many days have I been at this company?', 'How many days until JEE Main / NEET / Board exam?', 'How many days between two events?'. It also doubles as a business-days counter for project planning, where you need to know how many actual working days exist in a date range (excluding weekends). For Indian users, this calculator helps track exam countdowns (especially long preparation cycles for CAT, GATE, UPSC where aspirants prepare 6-12+ months out), wedding planning (typical 6-month engagement), gestation tracking, and project deadline planning.
Three useful modes: between two dates (project duration, vacation length), since a date (how long since you started a job, since a baby was born, since you began studying for an exam), and until a date (days until exam, wedding, festival, deadline). Each mode shows both total calendar days and business days (Monday-Friday only). The calculator works fully offline once loaded and uses your device's clock so the 'today' anchor stays current. Public holidays aren't auto-deducted because they vary by state and year - manually subtract for precise compliance deadlines.
Pick mode: between two dates, since a date, or until a date.
Enter the date(s).
Read total days and business days (Mon-Fri).
Total days = (date2 − date1) / 86,400,000 ms. Business days iterate day-by-day, counting only weekdays. Public holidays are NOT subtracted (they vary by region).
Total days = ⌊(End − Start) / 1 day⌋ Business days = count weekdays (Mon-Fri)
Total days: subtract start date from end date in milliseconds, divide by 86,400,000 (ms in a day). For consistent day counts, both dates are normalised to midnight in your local timezone before subtraction - this avoids partial-day fractions and gives clean integer day counts.
Business days: iterate day-by-day from start to end, counting only Monday-Friday. For very long ranges, an optimised algorithm uses (total_weeks × 5) + extra weekdays in partial weeks. This gives accurate business-day counts in milliseconds even for multi-year ranges. Note: this excludes only weekends; public holidays (Diwali, Holi, Independence Day, Republic Day, Eid, Christmas) and state-specific holidays vary by jurisdiction and year, so they're left for manual adjustment.
Inclusive vs exclusive: by default the count is exclusive of the end date. From 1 Jan to 5 Jan = 4 days (days passing). If you want to count inclusively (5 days in the range), add 1 manually. For 'how many days until' calculations, treat the target as exclusive - '7 days until Diwali' means the event is the 8th day from today.
Total: 258 days (about 8.5 months). Business days: 184. Useful as a daily preparation reminder. With 258 days at 6-8 hours study/day = 1,500-2,000 hours preparation time.
Total: 2,278 days = 6 years 2 months 27 days approximately. Useful for anniversary tracking and reminder apps.
A 90-day calendar deadline contains about 64 business days (90 × 5/7). For project planning, use business days (the actual working time available); for billing or rental, use calendar days.
Exclusive by default. From Jan 1 to Jan 5 is 4 days (5 − 1). Add 1 if you want inclusive count.
Total days includes everything. Business days excludes Sat/Sun. Public holidays aren't subtracted - adjust manually if needed.
Use the 'until' mode and enter the next occurrence. Calculator shows full days remaining.
Time-of-day matters - comparing 11 PM today to 1 AM tomorrow is the same calendar 'day' in our count. Day Counter rounds to date-only for clarity.
Date math, password generation, QR codes, IP subnets, base64 encoding, dew point, dice rolls, age calculations - none of these are 'big' problems individually, but they are the small frictions that interrupt your day. This tool runs entirely in your browser, has no popup, no chat widget and no tracking inside the calculation, so you can finish the task and move on.
Many tools in the Daily Utilities category complement each other - date difference + day counter + day-of-the-week, or password generator + QR code + base64 encoder. The related-tool grid links them together so you can move between adjacent problems in a click.
