Current: 68 attended of 90 held; 20 more classes scheduled; need 75%
Current: 68/90 = 75.6%. Just above cutoff. With 20 more classes, safe bunk count = 20 − 110×0.75 + 68 = 20 − 82.5 + 68 = 5.5 → 5 classes. So you can miss at most 5 of the next 20.
Calculate your attendance percentage, classes you can safely miss, and lectures you must attend to reach the required minimum. Built for the common 75% rule in Indian colleges.

Attendance rules can differ for theory, practicals and labs. Count only classes officially conducted by your department.
Attendance percentage is the single most-tracked metric in Indian colleges and schools after marks. Most universities - AICTE-affiliated engineering colleges, NMC-affiliated medical colleges, UGC universities, and CBSE/ICSE schools - mandate minimum 75% attendance for exam eligibility. Falling below the cutoff means being marked 'detained,' barred from end-semester exams, and forced to repeat the semester. Even small attendance dips matter: a fever, a wedding in the family, an internship interview, a family medical issue can quickly eat into the buffer.
This calculator answers three critical student questions: (1) What's my current attendance percentage? (2) How many more classes can I safely skip before falling below 75%? (3) If I'm already below, how many consecutive classes must I attend to climb back? The math is simple but the implications are major - students who casually skip classes assuming '75% is easy to maintain' often end up scrambling at semester-end. Tracking attendance weekly using this calculator helps you make informed decisions about absences and ensures you stay above the cutoff with confidence.
Enter total classes held and classes attended.
Set the required minimum attendance percentage.
Check your current attendance, shortage status and safe bunk count.
Use the future classes field to see projected attendance if you attend upcoming lectures.
Attendance percentage is attended classes divided by total classes held. To find classes you can miss, the calculator solves for how many absences keep the ratio above the required target. To find classes needed, it assumes you attend every next class until the target is crossed.
Attendance % = Attended / Classes Held × 100
Attendance percentage = (Classes Attended / Total Classes Held) × 100. Simple ratio. The denominator is classes officially conducted by faculty - cancelled or rescheduled classes don't count in either numerator or denominator. Mass-bunks where the entire class wasn't held also don't count. Some institutions count guest lectures and seminars in attendance; check your college policy.
Safe bunk calculation: given current attended (A), held (H), required minimum (M%), and assuming X future classes - how many of X can you skip while staying ≥ M%? Solve: (A + (X−Y)) / (H+X) ≥ M/100, where Y is the number you skip. Y_max = X − (H+X)×M/100 + A, capped at 0. Example: if you're at 80/100 (80%), with 20 more classes coming, you can skip up to: 20 − 120×0.75 + 80 = 20 − 90 + 80 = 10 classes. So you can miss 10 of the next 20 and still be at 75%.
Recovery from shortage: if your attendance is below target (say 70/100 = 70%, target 75%), you must attend several consecutive classes to rebuild. Required attended classes: solve (A+Z)/(H+Z) ≥ M/100. Z = (M×H − 100×A)/(100−M). For example: A=70, H=100, M=75: Z = (75×100 − 100×70)/(100−75) = (7500−7000)/25 = 20. You must attend 20 straight classes to get back to 75%. If only 15 classes remain in the semester, you cannot recover - you're detained.
Current: 68/90 = 75.6%. Just above cutoff. With 20 more classes, safe bunk count = 20 − 110×0.75 + 68 = 20 − 82.5 + 68 = 5.5 → 5 classes. So you can miss at most 5 of the next 20.
Below 75%. Recovery needed: must attend (75×95 − 100×70)/(100−75) = (7125−7000)/25 = 5 next classes consecutively before any further skip. With 30 left, attendance = (70+30)/(95+30) = 100/125 = 80% if you attend all - comfortable recovery.
Far below 75%. Recovery: (75×80 − 100×45)/(100−75) = (6000−4500)/25 = 60 classes needed. Only 25 left - cannot recover even by attending all. Talk to faculty about medical leave certificate for adjustment.
It depends on attended and held classes. The calculator shows the maximum safe misses before falling below 75%.
The tool shows how many consecutive classes you need to attend to reach the target again.
Yes, if your college tracks lab attendance separately, enter lab classes held and attended.
No. Count only classes officially conducted by the faculty.
Indian academic life is full of small math problems with high stakes - converting a 10-point CGPA to percentage for a job application, checking whether you can afford to skip Friday's lecture and still hit 75% attendance, predicting your final grade after the practical exam. This tool follows the rules of the most common Indian boards and universities (CBSE, Anna University, VTU, IIT) by default and can switch to global scales (4.0, 5.0, GPA + Honors).
Use this calculator alongside the GPA, CGPA, attendance and exam-score calculators during exam season - they cover the entire chain from individual marks to a credit-weighted CGPA. Most are also useful for parents helping their children understand academic progress.
The Attendance Calculator is part of the Education suite on Online Calculator Tools, alongside 6 related calculators. All tools share the same UI patterns, the same privacy-first rendering (nothing is sent to a server), and the same commitment to showing the formula and assumptions behind every result.
