Two-shift duty addition: 4:30 morning shift + 3:15 evening shift
Total: 7:45 = 7.75 hours. At ₹200/hr, daily wage = ₹1,550. Common for healthcare and hospitality workers with split shifts.
Add or subtract two time durations expressed as HH:MM or HH:MM:SS. Useful for shift schedules, cooking, video editing, music production and any time arithmetic that crosses minutes-and-seconds boundaries.

Adding and subtracting time durations is everyday math that humans get wrong surprisingly often - because time uses base-60 for minutes and seconds, not base-10. Adding 1:45 + 0:30 isn't simply 1:75; it's 2:15 because 75 minutes overflows by 15 minutes into the next hour. This time calculator handles the base-60 carry/borrow correctly for any combination of hours, minutes and seconds. Use it for cooking timing (recipe says 1h 45m, you already spent 30m, how much left?), shift schedules, music production (track lengths), video editing (clip durations), audio book listening time totals, and project hour tracking.
For Indian users specifically, this calculator helps with shift work calculations (factory workers, hospital nurses, IT support), gym workout duration totals (sum of multiple exercise sets), academic study time tracking (totalling study sessions for board exam or JEE prep), and billing for freelance work or consulting where you log time in hours-and-minutes. The decimal hours output (1:30 = 1.5 hours) is essential for payroll and invoicing - multiply decimal hours by hourly rate to get billable amount.
Enter time A in HH:MM format.
Pick add or subtract.
Enter time B.
See the total in HH:MM and as a decimal hours value.
Each time is parsed into total minutes (with seconds as fractions). The two values are added or subtracted, then formatted back to HH:MM. Negative results show with a minus sign.
Total minutes = h × 60 + m + s/60 Result = A ± B (in minutes), formatted back to HH:MM
Internal representation: both inputs are parsed into total seconds (or total minutes for HH:MM-only mode). h × 3600 + m × 60 + s = total seconds. This base-10 representation makes addition and subtraction trivial. After computing the result, convert back: hours = floor(total/3600), minutes = floor((total mod 3600)/60), seconds = total mod 60.
Carry/borrow handling: when minutes exceed 59, carry into hours. When seconds exceed 59, carry into minutes. When subtracting and a unit goes negative, borrow from the next higher unit. The internal seconds representation handles all this automatically - no manual carry math required. Negative results (subtracting larger from smaller) are kept with a minus sign rather than 'rolling over.'
Decimal hours conversion: total seconds / 3600 = decimal hours. So 2 hours 30 minutes = 9000 seconds / 3600 = 2.5 hours. Used for payroll (40 hours × ₹500/hr = ₹20,000), billable consulting time, and any time-based payment calculation. The decimal version makes calculator-based multiplication trivial.
Total: 7:45 = 7.75 hours. At ₹200/hr, daily wage = ₹1,550. Common for healthcare and hospitality workers with split shifts.
Total: 2:30 = 2.5 hours from start to ready. Useful when planning meal timing for guests or family.
Total: 5:05 = 5.083 hours. At ₹1,500/hr consulting rate: ₹7,625 billable for the project.
Time Calculator adds two durations (1:30 + 0:45 = 2:15). Hours Calculator finds elapsed time between two clock times (10:00 AM → 6:00 PM = 8 hours).
When adding, sums above 24 hours are kept as-is (25:30). Use the Hours Calculator when computing across-midnight clock differences.
Time-based billing and payroll use decimal hours. 2:30 = 2.5 hours, used directly in pay × rate.
30 seconds = 0.5 minute = 1/120 of an hour. Fractions are exact internally and let you mix HH:MM with HH:MM:SS inputs.
Date math, password generation, QR codes, IP subnets, base64 encoding, dew point, dice rolls, age calculations - none of these are 'big' problems individually, but they are the small frictions that interrupt your day. This tool runs entirely in your browser, has no popup, no chat widget and no tracking inside the calculation, so you can finish the task and move on.
Many tools in the Daily Utilities category complement each other - date difference + day counter + day-of-the-week, or password generator + QR code + base64 encoder. The related-tool grid links them together so you can move between adjacent problems in a click.
The Time Calculator is part of the Daily Utilities suite on Online Calculator Tools, alongside 6 related calculators. All tools share the same UI patterns, the same privacy-first rendering (nothing is sent to a server), and the same commitment to showing the formula and assumptions behind every result.
