परिचय

Road Trip Cost Calculator को समझें

India's road trip culture has exploded post-2020 with better expressways (Mumbai-Pune, Bengaluru-Mysuru, Delhi-Mumbai, Yamuna Expressway, Eastern Peripheral), affordable hatchbacks and SUVs, FASTag-enabled toll plazas, and route-planning apps like Google Maps and HereWeGo. Popular routes include Mumbai-Goa-Mumbai, Delhi-Manali, Bangalore-Coorg, Chennai-Pondicherry, Pune-Mahabaleshwar, Ahmedabad-Mount Abu, and the iconic Leh-Ladakh circuits. This calculator helps you budget the trip across the five major cost categories - fuel, tolls, food, stay and miscellaneous - and split the total fairly across travellers.

Why budget upfront? Because road trip cost varies enormously by route choice, vehicle, season and accommodation tier. A weekend Mumbai-Lonavala trip might cost ₹4,000-₹6,000 for a couple in a small car; Bangalore-Coorg-Mysore-Bangalore loop runs ₹10,000-₹15,000 for a family; a multi-day Delhi-Manali-Spiti circle can exceed ₹30,000-₹50,000. Knowing the total beforehand helps decide whether to drive vs train/flight, whether to upgrade the car class, whether to book a premium hotel or stick with mid-range, and how to split costs fairly when traveling in a group of friends or families.

कैसे इस्तेमाल करें

Road Trip Cost Calculator को 5 चरणों में इस्तेमाल करें

  1. Enter trip distance and your car mileage. The fuel cost is calculated automatically.

  2. Enter the estimated tolls (FASTag) - most expressways show toll on Google Maps.

  3. Add food, stay (per night × nights), parking and any miscellaneous costs.

  4. Enter the number of people sharing.

  5. Read the total trip cost and the per-person split.

Road Trip Cost Calculator कैसे काम करता है

The calculator adds five categories - fuel, tolls, food, stay and miscellaneous - to a single total, then divides by the number of travellers for a per-person view. Fuel is computed from distance, mileage and current price per litre. Other categories are direct inputs because they vary widely by destination, season and choice of hotel.

Formula

Total = Fuel + Tolls + Food + Stay + Misc • Per person = Total / Travellers

  • FuelDistance / Mileage × Price per litre
  • TollsFASTag charges along the route
  • FoodTotal food and snacks budget
  • StayPer-night cost × number of nights
  • MiscParking, sightseeing tickets, tips, etc.
गणित

Road Trip Cost Calculator जवाब कैसे निकालता है

Fuel: distance / mileage × per-litre price. For a Bangalore-Coorg round trip of 580 km in a sedan getting 15 km/L with petrol at ₹100/L: 580/15 × 100 = ₹3,867. Use your real-world mileage (typically 15-25% lower than ARAI figures), not the manufacturer's claimed figure. Calculator handles round-trip toggle so you don't need to double the distance manually.

Tolls: FASTag tolls vary by highway category. National Expressways like Mumbai-Pune charge ₹2-3/km. National Highway tolls average ₹1.50/km. State Highway tolls vary widely. Google Maps now displays expected toll for any route - note it down before the trip. For a 600 km expressway-heavy route, expect ₹600-₹1,800 in tolls each way. FASTag is mandatory; ensure adequate balance.

Food, stay, misc: Food on highway dhabas: ₹150-₹250/meal/person; mid-range restaurants: ₹400-₹700; premium hotels: ₹1,000+. Plan ₹600-₹1,500/day/person on food. Stay: Budget hotels ₹2,000-₹4,000/night, mid-range ₹4,000-₹8,000, premium ₹8,000-₹20,000+ (per room, not per person). Miscellaneous: parking (₹50-₹200/day), entry tickets (₹50-₹500 per place), guides, water-bottles, ride snacks, occasional emergencies. Always add 10-15% safety buffer.

ध्यान दें

आम गलतियाँ और सावधानियाँ

  • Forgetting FASTag tolls. Expressway tolls can equal 25-30% of fuel cost.
  • Underestimating food cost on the road. Highway food is often 1.5-2× home food cost.
  • Skipping the 10-15% safety buffer. Punctures, hotel changes, extra fuel due to detours happen.
  • Calculating one-way when actually doing round trip.
  • Forgetting parking, entry tickets and tips - these add up over multi-day trips.
  • Assuming peak-season hotel rates equal off-season. Peak (Dec-Jan, summer holidays) costs 30-50% more.

  • Use Google Maps' toll-cost display when planning the route - gives a clear estimate.
  • Book hotels 1-2 weeks ahead for 15-25% savings vs walk-in rates.
  • For peak-season (Dec-Jan, summer), book 1-2 months ahead to lock in lower rates.
  • Always add ₹500-1,000 per traveller for unforeseen expenses - small emergencies are common.
  • Pair with the fuel cost, EV charging and budget calculators on this site for total trip planning.
अक्सर पूछे सवाल

Road Trip Cost Calculator के बारे में सवाल

How do I estimate toll cost in India?

Google Maps now shows the toll for most National and State Highways. As a rule of thumb, expressways cost about ₹2-₹3 per km, NH tolls average ₹1.5 per km, and SH tolls vary widely.

Should I include parking and entry fees?

Yes - add them to the miscellaneous bucket. Hill stations and tourist spots often charge ₹100-₹500 per car at entry, and parking near markets adds up.

What is a reasonable food budget?

Highway dhabas: ₹150-₹250 per person per meal. Mid-range restaurants: ₹400-₹700. Premium hotels: ₹1,000+. For 2 days plan ₹1,500-₹2,500 per head on food.

Are EV trips cheaper?

Yes - significantly. Use the EV Charging Calculator to estimate energy cost, then add tolls, food and stay here. EV running cost is 70-80% lower than petrol.

Should I add a 10% buffer?

Always. Unforeseen expenses - punctures, last-minute hotel changes, extra meals - typically add 10-15% to the planned budget.

Can I split unequally between travellers?

This calculator assumes an equal split, which is the most common case. For uneven splits, divide manually or use a Splitwise-style app.

Total cost of ownership, simplified

Owning a vehicle in India means juggling EMI, fuel cost, depreciation, charging cost (for EVs), maintenance and trip cost. These numbers are interconnected - a longer commute means more fuel, faster depreciation, and bigger interest payments. Rather than treat them in isolation, the vehicle calculators help you see the full stack before you sign on the dotted line.

Pair this calculator with the EMI, depreciation, fuel cost and EV charging calculators to compute the realistic monthly cost of ownership. For depreciation we follow the IRDAI standard schedule used by Indian insurers for IDV (Insured Declared Value); for EV charging we model losses, charger type and time-of-use tariffs.
